Found the following post at SoftwareAdvice.com

Is Horizontal Accounting Software Dead?

While Mr. Merritt of Software Advice makes some interesting points there are limitations to a vertical specific solution as opposed to a solution such as Dynamics GP.  Dynamics GP is a horizontal solution but because of the plethora of add-ons and third-party products available (with more being introduced on a regular basis), Dynamics GP is essentially able to morph into a vertical specific package that is easier to  customize to specific needs of the companies within each vertical.  Additionally, with the seamless integration with other packages such as Microsoft Office, Dynamics GP would be a better choice for verticals looking to create specialized solutions while still working with the other solutions they need to manage their businesses.
